One of the benefits I’ve found with home schooling is that science is sometimes left up to me to determine the topic of my day (rarely, but on occasion). Today I decided I wanted to study the stars, the galaxy outside our universe and my source was an unusual but effective video that just happens to be popular among others my age (read: Mom hates it).
So, off I went on my own to study the Galaxy via “The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy”. Amid the dirty looks from mom’s side of the desk when she heard some of the bad jokes coming from my speakers, I learned quite a lot. For instance: I learned in the first five minutes that the writer of the show is a genius, although, he’s at least a little big crazy. What that has to do with the stars in the sky and the universe, I don’t know, but I’ll figure out an answer of some sort before I have to write my report on the topic, I’m sure.
A friend mentioned that I probably wasn’t doing REAL school, when I chose my topics. That same friend told me later about watching a fun video in class, one the teacher picked. At least as a home schooler – I get to pick my videos – as long as mom approves.
So, what kinds of fun things do you do while you’re learning?
